St Philips Teaching School
Since 2022, The King’s College has proudly partnered with St Philip’s Teaching School to deliver an innovative, authentic and hands on training pathway into the teaching profession.
Supporting Future Christian Educators
Through this unique program, trainee teachers are employed part-time at The King’s College while completing a nationally recognised four-year teaching degree. St Philip’s Teaching School provides the Christ-centred, practical and innovative teacher education component of the program, equipping future educators to teach with excellence and purpose.
From the very beginning of their studies, trainee teachers are immersed in classroom life alongside experienced mentor teachers. Through guidance, encouragement and hands-on experience, they develop the skills, confidence and professional knowledge needed to become effective and classroom-ready educators.
We were recently privileged to welcome Mrs Samantha Mortel, Executive Principal, Tertiary Education at St Philip’s Teaching School, to The King’s College. During her visit, Samantha met with our trainee teacher, Mrs Raquel Pottier, who has been part of the St Philip’s program at The King’s College since 2023.
Raquel shared her journey of studying and working within our College community, reflecting on the support, encouragement and authentic learning opportunities she has experienced while pursuing her calling as a Christian educator.
A significant strength of the program is that the trainee teachers gain meaningful classroom experience from the commencement of their studies, spending from one to two days each week learning and serving in a real school environment. Combined with the guidance of dedicated mentor teachers, this provides a rich and practical foundation for future success in the profession and ensures classroom readiness when they graduate.
We are grateful for our partnership with St Philip’s Teaching School and the opportunity to invest in the next generation of Christian educators. Together, we are helping to prepare passionate, capable teachers who will make a lasting difference in the lives of students for years to come.
